RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a way of delivering regularly updated web content direct to the reader. As well as the PM Society, many news-related sites, weblogs and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed which you can subscribe to.
Why use RSS?
The beauty of RSS is that new website content is brought directly to the subscriber, meaning that you can easily stay up-to-date with your chosen website. When new content is published you will automatically receive it, saving you time and effort.
How can I read an RSS Feed?
RSS Feeds are intended to be displayed by Feed Reader or News Aggregator software. These allow you to subscribe to RSS feeds, and will alert you to new items
There are many free RSS readers avaiable; you can either use a web-based Reader, or download a Feed Reader onto your computer.
Some of the best free web-based feed readers include:
- Google Reader (requires a free Google account)
- My Yahoo (requires a free Yahoo account)
- Bloglines
To receive updates once you have your Feed Reader set up, you simply need to add RSS feeds to the list of feeds your Feed Reader checks. The PM Society feed is available by clicking this button
.
When a feed is available on a website, your browser will display a small orange icon similar to this one to alert you to it so that you can choose to subscribe. Clicking on it will usually bring up options allowing you to subscribe to the site's content using your chosen reader.
