The PM Society's adopted charity for 2013/2014 is Winston's Wish.
Winston’s Wish is the leading childhood bereavement charity in the UK.
Every 22 minutes a child in Britain is bereaved of a parent. This equates to over 24,000 newly bereaved children each and every year. In total, around 480,000 under-18s have experienced the death of a parent or sibling.
Winston’s Wish helps children rebuild their lives after the death of a parent or sibling, enabling them to face the future with confidence and hope. We provide professional therapeutic help in individual, group or residential settings, and via a national helpline, interactive website and specialist publications. Our experience demonstrates that the right support at the right time can have a life changing impact on bereaved children.
"Winston's Wish's capacity for healing is phenomenal…the staff are so skilful and compassionate; they are always on hand to give me a different perspective or to offer an idea as to how to overcome the latest stumbling block”. Craig, parent.
Louise Brown, Community Fundraiser says ‘We are thrilled to have the support of PM Society this year. The Digital Media Awards and the Advertising Awards have collectively raised a staggering £12,700 towards our work with bereaved children and this is enough to pay for 4 children and their families to receive the full programme of support from Winston’s Wish. This would typically be over a period of 10 months and would include attendance at one of our residential weekends as well as individual work and telephone support’
